Week 49 - 2024, links that I found interesting
A summary of the best that I've read this week.
Ruby on Rails
Short Ruby Newsletter - edition 116
The periodic Ralis weekly comes with the announcement of 1Password joining the Rails core member.
A deep article about ruby performance and the JYIT. A lot of low-level details.
Databases
AWS has published a new Aurora version called Amazon Aurora DSQL, which describes itself as “Fastest serverless distributed SQL database for always available applications.” However, the compatibility with PG is reduced.
More about Aurora DSQL, this one explains how they handle the transactions internally with drawings, this one explains how they handle row locking, and this one about how they handle the CAP theorem problems.
This post provides an alternative to count denormalization using the timescale PG extension.
JVM
This is a great presentation about Spring IA.
Misc
The last few days have been the AWS reinvent. In this blog post, you can read a summary of the vast amount of announcements.
In this tweet, Shopify has shared some technical numbers about black Friday, my god…
This is a very long article about how the distributed system could be in a few years.
I discovered this blog named “The Payments Engineering Playbook” a few weeks ago and every article there is gold, this one is about the CAP theorem and how Stripe and Shopify face it.
